National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, 2016

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Approximately two million Australians will be invited to screen for bowel cancer free of charge in 2016 with the continued rollout of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP).  In 2016: 50, 55, 60, 64, 65, 70, 72 and 74 year-olds will be invited to the NBSCP, with the ages 64 and 72 added for the first time.  By 2020, all Australians aged 50 to 74 will be invited to participate every two years.  Research shows that 70,000 deaths can be prevented in Australia in the coming 40 years with full roll-out of the program.  Fewer than four in ten Victorians who are invited to screen are sending back a completed test kit.  Nine in ten bowel cancers can be successfully treated with early detection.  Health care providers can play an important role in encouraging their clients to send back their completed tests.  For more information on the NBCSP click here.
